Building 2000 Gallon Off Grid Gravity Fed Water System

SERIES

18 Videos

Our property selection had many requirements. One was elevation. This would allow us to develop a gravity fed water system to serve our domestic potable water needs as well as fire suppression. Being off grid we’d like a system which could be filled on demand when either generous solar was available or through a generator.

This system features 2 cisterns buried below frost depth with 70 feet of head to generate around 30psi water pressure. A 2 inch poly main line is used to provide clean out capacity and enable flow capable of fire suppression. Air trenching is used to minimize soil disturbance and root damage on the hillside.

A wireless monitoring system is installed o track the system status, usage trends and make chores easier. Poly fittings and valves are used for their flexibility and drastic cost savings.
